Senior unspayed dog bleeding a lot for the first time. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 9 years and 11 months old

Hi. My dog is already 9 yrs old. I was petting her awhile ago and when she stood up, I saw a mini pool of blood. When she walked around the house, blood is also dripping. This is the first time I saw her bleed that much and I don't know if this is normal.

As she is unspayed you need to check if she is bleeding from her genital area, it could be normal, it depends how much is a lot. if it is not from there then it is definitively not normal and you need to take her to the vet urgently to get it checked and treated.
