Why is my cat missing whiskers and licking his face in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 17 lbs

My kitty Sammie is missing 3 whiskers. And I'm thinking he lost them wholeness playing with my kitten. Sammie is 5 years old. And I've noticed him trying to lick that part of his face, but it's the back part of his face. It looks like it hurts him to eat some. So I have given him some soft food. What can I do to help him, and is this normal behavior?

He may have lost whiskers or possibly has developed an infection in this area due to irritation/ a cut. Either way it is likely sore, you can try bathing it for a few days but if it is deteriorating or not improving I would get it checked by the vet in case he needs antibiotics.
