Unfortunately I'm having a little trouble understand your question as I'm not sure what you mean by "My dog I heated uses tampons..." I'm wondering if Bella ate a tampon or if you wanted to use one on her while she is in heat. I will answer both to be safe. If she ate a tampon, then yes this is a medical emergency and she has to see a vet now. Tampons can easily cause obstructions in the GI tract, especially since they are absorbent and can get large in the stomach from liquid in there. if Bella ate a tampon, you need to take her into a vet immediately to get it removed. If she is on heat, no you cannot use a tampon to control her bleeding. It's not safe to use at all, and are not meant for dogs. You can put a diaper on her to catch any bloody discharge. There are dog specific diapers online and at pets stores, or you can use one made for a human child. Just cut a hole in it for her tail. Hopefully this answers your question. Hello! Tampons can be tricky. Their absorbency can allow them to fill up inside the small intestines and cause blockages that may be only fixable with surgery . Sometimes, they will pass without problems. Luckily, Amara is a larger breed dog, so she may have a better chance of being able to pass these without needing surgery. For peace of mind, you could take Amara in for an x-ray now to see if there are any early signs of intestinal blockages. If you choose to monitor at home before taking her in, keep a very close eye on her for the next few days. If she starts to vomit, not want her food, become lethargic, or have diarrhea, it could be a sign of an intestinal obstruction. If you notice these signs, take her into a vet to be seen as soon as possible. They will recommend x-rays of her abdomen to evaluate her intestines and bloodwork to ensure there is no ongoing infection or other underlying disease. I hope you find this helpful! There are two possibilities to deal with that: 1) you take him to a Pet ER right away where they will give him some apomorphine to make him regurgitate his stomach contents. 2) you wait until it leaves the body via the stool. This can take a few days, but also bears the risk of causing an intestinal obstruction. It may be possible that he will regurgitate it without intervention, however the earlier you have vomiting induced , the less likely the tampon will leave the stomach into the intestine.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Bella! Tampons are tough! I have had to do surgery to remove them before. If Bella is vomiting, lethargic and not eating then I would worry that the tampon is stuck. I would recommend having her seen. Sadly just because she was lucky enough to pass one before doesn’t mean it will this time. I wish you the best!

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. I recommend getting Zeke to the vet IMMEDIATELY to attempt to get Zeke to vomit up the tampons. Tampons very regularly cause blockages of the gut as they grow as they absorb water. The drug that your vet will use likely will be something called 'apomorphine' and this works much much better at making dogs vomit than other methods, and is much safer. Please get Zeke to a vet right away. The longer you wait the longer the risk that the tampons will leave the stomach and go into the intestines where they will get stuck, and at that point surgery is your only option. If he just ate them you can attempt to make him vomit. He can have 1-1/2 to 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide by mouth. It may take up to 15 minutes for him to vomit. If he does not vomit, DO NOT give more peroxide. Get him to the vet ASAP. Even if he does vomit that does not mean everything will come up so if in the day or so he starts acting sick (not eating, vomiting, lethargic) then you need to get him to your vet ASAP as he could have something stuck in his intestines.

I'd take Roxy into an ER vet now. The problem with tampons is that they can cause an intestinal blockage, and one sign of it is vomiting. She should be checked out now to make sure everything is ok. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It may be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. They could attempt to remove it via endoscopy. Otherwise, monitor him closely for signs of a gastrointestinal obstruction such as vomiting, nausea and/or abdominal pain. If those are seen, have him evaluated then as he may need surgery. Hello there! Tampons absorb fluid, so when ingested, they can swell in the intestines and cause a blockage that requires surgery. This could affect any size dog, but as Hershey is a large breed, she has a better chance of being able to pass the tampon without needing surgery. This is good news! The signs of her having an intestinal obstruction that requires medical or surgical attention would be: Not interested in food, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargic, being reclusive (like laying in a corner by herself) I am not alarmed that she has vomited once, but keep an eye on her. If she starts to show other signs that I mentioned, take her into her vet. They will recommend x-rays to check for a blockage in the intestinal tract and bloodwork to check for infections and anemia that can result from a blockage. Then they will either recommend medical intervention, which may include fluids, antibiotics, a high fiber diet, and enemas, or surgical intervention, which may include cutting the intestine t

Good morning! I have had several patients consume used tampons over the years. He may be large enough to pass it. However, I have had several smaller patients who did obstruct and need surgery. If I were in your situation I would recommend having him seen by a veterinarian and see if they can induce vomiting. If it is still in his stomach and he is able to vomit it up then the problem is solved. I would take a loaf of bread with you to your appointment to help fill his stomach before vomiting which could help it come out. If it has already passed out of the stomach into the intestinal tract then waiting for any signs of vomiting or diarrhea is important. I think the likelihood of TSS is extremely slim and I would worry more about obstruction then anything else. Best of luck and I hope he vomits it up! Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Oh that's not good. The problem with a tampon is that it can cause an obstruction. It can take up to 72 hours for it to pass, but if you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or anorexia, then the tampon is causing an obstruction, and you will need to take him into a vet immediately.
