My dog has a bump after a cold vaccine shot. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 15 days old | 4.4 lbs

Can a vaccine be applied as soon as it is taken out from the fridge? A node appeared right on the spot the vaccine was applied, can it be caused by the vaccine application or is it normal? The vaccine was Vanguard Plus 5.

I do not foresee issues giving a vaccine when it is still cool. If the vaccine is not administered properly under the skin but within the layers of the skin you may see a bump at the site of injection. If the bump appears a few hours to days later it could be a reaction of the immune system or an abscess forming at the site of injection. I suggest you have Meg examined by a veterinarian if the bump does not go away nor go down with in the next 24 hours. Good luck and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Enjoy your puppy.
