Why is my senior cat suddenly very sick with weight loss and vomiting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My cat seems to be very sick and I'm hoping for help figuring out why. She's a female cat approx 10years old who's had significant weight loss over the last couple months (5+lbs), decreased appetite, playfulness and mobility. Recently showing signs of constipation, now throwing up green liquid + small amounts of food, also has yellow half hard half liquid stools. She has a runny nose 24/7 with spasmatic breathing episodes + is constantly cold now. Is it age related or is it something we can fix?

Poor Sarah! No this is not age-related, and she sounds quite ill. She needs to see a vet right away to get a diagnosis and come up with a treatment plan to get her feeling better. She needs to have bloodwork done, as well as abdominal xrays to start with. This will tell your vet if she has a metabolic disease going on like diabetes or hyperthyroidism, both of which are treatable. She may have an upper respiratory tract infection as well causing the breathing issues, and I suspect she needs to be on antibiotics and anti inflammatory medication to make her feel better. Hope that helps!
