My dog had bloody mucus diarrhea, now he isn't pooping. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, My maltese refused to eat his food then was stooling watery poo. Yesternight, he pooped a really large combination of mucus and blood. I fasted him. He plays normal, drinks water. Gave him food this afternoon. He ate again this night but hasn't pooped at all and it is begining to look quite scary from watery poop to no poop at all. Please what do you think is wrong?

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is likely he didn't poop because you didn't feed him after he had diarrhea so his colon was probably empty. If he continues to have watery diarrhea I would recommend having a vet see him to rule out parasites and to treat the abnormal bacteria that is growing in his GI tract. Good luck and kisses to the pup!
