Is daily dog walking crucial for my pet's health and long life?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 8 months old

I take him on walk like today we went on walk then now after 3 days we went for walk sometimes regular and sometime alternate days so taking him on walk like this can have adverse affect on his life span and can shortens his life span?

As long as he is healthy, and not overweight, failing to walk every single day will probably not shorten his lifespan or have an adverse effect on his health. Much of this is genetically predetermined. I just lost an aunt seven weeks before her 100th birthday. She didn't exercise, ate hot dogs all the time, smoked, and never met a vegetable she liked. That said, though, Bruno needs exercise for his mental as well as physical health. Dogs can get bored easily and need stimulation, so do try to walk him as often as you can.

Bruno , being a young adult German Shepherd, should be able to exercise daily as long as the temperature is not too hot or too cold. Be careful not to walk on to hot pavement at it can cause pad ulcerations. Monitor his gate to make sure he does not develop any sprains. Make sure he has plenty of fresh water when needed. Consider having him neutered as he might be a better walk companion regarding other dogs in the neighborhood. Consider alternating exercise like swimming for example so that he can exercise other parts of his body and mucles. A good exercise regiment could certainly improve his health and possibly yours at the same time. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
