Why does my playful new rescued puppy have yellow diarrhea for days?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 15 days old | 2 lbs

My wife rescued an 6-8 week puppy. 16 hours later, puupy acquired diarea and has had maintained such for 4 days. Gave over the counter deworming meds, and feeding her rice and water/chicken broth mixture. The diarea is now yellowish. No vomiting and she is playful, and sleeps well.

This may be from stress or diet related from whatever she was surviving on before being rescued. Since she is eating and not vomiting, it minimizes the chance it is parvo virus. You can try to add a canine probiotic to the chicken and rice; this can be found at any pet supply store. Since it has been going on for so many days though, she may need to see a vet to see if antibiotics are needed.
