Why is my dog's skin yellow after neutering? Bruising or infection?

My pup had surgery to neutered on Monday the 7th. I noticed the skin is yellow. It's normally red but now has this new color is this just bruising or could it be infection.

There can be some bruising from the surgery, and this yellowing can be from healing bruises. Thanks for providing a picture of Cooper's incision, and from the picture it looks like it's healing well. Yellow is not a sign of infection, so I'm not concerned the incision is infected. Continue to monitor the incision twice daily.

    I'm wondering if that's some bruising that's healing. The incision itself looks really good, and I see no sign of infection. If Ashton is acting normally, then you can wait until Monday to have him seen. I hope this helps!

My male dog, 1 years old, got neutered 6 days ago. I am worried because his incision looks yellow. They used dissolvable stitches.
Hello I recommend having this looked at by your veterinarian. It could be a reaction to the sutures dissolving but this could also be an infection. I recommend Rocky Road be prevented from licking/scratching at the site until your vet can take a look at it.

My 1 yr old chihuahua Bowie just got neutered yesterday, I'm not sure if it's bruised or infected....
That looks like bruising but I would keep a close eye on it. Follow the post operative instructions you were given; no running or jumping for 10-14 days, don't let him lick it, outside only to go potty on a leash then back inside, keep him confined to a crate if you need to to keep him quiet. If it starts oozing serum, pus, if it swells, gets red and/or hot, if he starts acting sick, get him back in to see your vet right away.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I think the incision looks fine. Just continue to monitor it by checking it daily definitely keep him from licking it. Licking is the the number one cause of incisional infection. Don't apply anything to the incision and don't remove the scabs. Just leave it to heal on its own. Things to be worried about: swelling, actual discharge (pus or blood-tinged fluid) coming from the incision, lots of redness around the incision or a portion of the incision is open. To me, this looks just fine right now. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

There appears to be some bruising there but if the incision is not warm, swollen, opening, nor have any discharge these are good signs. Given the bruising, activity restriction and an e collar will remain important. I hope this helps and thank you for using Boop by Petco!

My dog has a rash that seems to have developed from his e-collar next to his neuter incision. Should this be of concern?
Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. The red area next to his incision looks like some bruising that likely occurred due to trauma/pinching of the area during surgery. Bruising can worsen during the first 2-3 days following a procedure, but should start to improve after that time. The dried blood/crusting around his incision is not abnormal either. If Charlie Brown will tolerate it, you can gently wipe the crusting away using a damp wash cloth once daily, but not any more frequent than this. I definitely recommend keeping Charlie Brown's Elizabethan collar on AT ALL TIMES until his sutures are removed by your veterinarian to prevent him from licking at the area and causing trauma/increasing the risk of an incisional infection. If the bruising worsens after day 3-4 post-op, and/or you notice yellow/thick, foul-smelling discharge, and/or if any of the sutures seem to have fallen out, I recommend having Charlie Brown seen by your veterinarian right away. My dog was nuetered a week ago and it seems like he's got blood under his skin. I can't tell if it's normal bruising or a problem
Poor Victor! The bruising around his incision site is a bit more prominent than usual, but it does not appear to be a cause for immediate concern. The incision appears to be healing in the middle, but still looks a bit more open than expected at both the very top and bottom. Be sure to keep an e-collar (cone) on Victor at all times until his incision has fully healed (typically 10-14 days after surgery). However, if you are noticing any discharge from the incision, redness, swelling, or worsening of the bruising, I do recommend taking Victor to his vet for a follow up evaluation. My dog was neutered 3 days ago. He's an almost 2 y/o mini poodle. There's a yellow (blood tinged) discharge he leaves on the floor from his neuter incision. He's already in antibiotics, wearing an extended E-collar. He doesnt vomit. Not lethargic.
1. Do not clean the wound with iodine. You are interrupting the healing process, and the stitches should not get wet. You may be seeing this discharge because you are cleaning it. Leave it alone. 2. Just leave it be. Don't touch it, and check it twice daily for signs of infection. 3. I would take Graham into the vet if you see infection or excessive blooding discharge from the incision.

my dog got neutered 7 days ago. his incision appears to be open, slightly red and yellow, even possibly clear puss. but i cannot tell if it is infected and opened?
If the incision seems open with discharge you should have your vet take a look - antibiotics might be required. Some scrotal swelling can be normal, but a scrotal hematoma or infection can also develop which might require treatment. You should make sure Max wears an e-collar to prevent licking until you can see the vet.

We took our chihuahua mix to get neutered on the 24th and its starting to look red. Is it something to be worried about?
In the pictures it appears like the neuter incision is completely healed and Piglet just has a small bruise or irrigation around the prepuce. This could be related to the neuter but also might be related to allergies or another issue. I would continue to monitor the redness and if it continues or gets worse take Piglet back to the vet for an exam. You can try an over the counter anti histamine incase it is just allergies.
