hello i have a dachshund that was diagnosed with dermatitis but despite medications he still itch and have flaky skins around eyes and armpits..and chest (he lost his fur now)..around his eyes the skin is so dry he looks like he is wearing a white mask! i was reading it could be Seborrhea?? what is the best cure ? and cream to relief ?? EARS are also affected. he scratches especially in the summer. Winter is actually ok bless him

Aw poor Oscar! That looks uncomfortable! From the way this looks I think it is possible that Oscar has sarcoptic mange. A veterinarian could do a skins scrape on the affected areas to determine if this is what's going on and a medication or topical med could be dispensed. Other possible causes for seasonal itch are atopy (environmental allergies), fleas and food allergies. There are many newer medications on the market like Apoquel and Cytopoint that may help with itch related to allergies. Medicated bathing can also help. Omega 3 supplements may also be useful. Your veterinarian may be able to discuss some other options with you as far as these medications are concerned. Finally, there are other health concerns like hypothyroidism and Cushings disease that can cause hair loss. You may want to consider blood work to see if any of these things are causing skin changes in Oscar. I hope he starts feeling better soon!
