Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 10 years and 11 months old | 11 lbs
My shih tzu Chloe is about to turn 11 years old. Just had a complete check up a month ago and all tests came out great. Vet said he would never know from the results that she was advanced age. She's never had any health issues except a mild heart murmur, which ultrasound confirmed so physical symptoms at this point. I was away from home this past weekend and when I got home I noticed a small cloudy area in her left eye within the iris just below the pupil.

A cloudy spot on the cornea can be caused by a few different things, including corneal ulcer or abrasion, conjunctivitis (bacterial, fungal, or viral), uveitis, glaucoma, etc. Since it appears to be a new problem, I would recommend that Chloe see her vet as soon as possible. The vet will do a thorough ocular exam and may recommend testing like fluorescein stain (to look for an ulcer) or tonometry (to measure the pressure of the eye). Then appropriate medications can be prescribed. If the cloudy spot is inside her actual iris, this can be a symptom of clotting disorders, inflammation, or cancer.
