Why does my new kitten have bloody poop but still act normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 5 days old | 1.98 lbs

My 2 month old kitten just came to my house on Aug 5th 2017. Maybe he ate too much biscuits, his poop always with some blood. The first poop was hard and the next 3 times were normal, not mushy. But he is still SUPER energetic these days and seems quite happy.

I'm glad to hear that Dan is still acting like a normal kitten. The signs you are seeing could be from a change in kitten food, the stress of a new home, parasites or other things. If his first stool was hard, maybe it caused some trauma to the area resulting in fresh blood. It may resolve on it's own if it's related to the stress or food change. If it persists, or you see a change in his energy or appetite, I would recommend taking him to your veterinarian. They will most likely want to run a fecal exam to check for parasites and may prescribe medications to treat it.
