My cat threw up dry food. Will he also vomit his new dry renal diet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 years and 7 months old | 19 lbs

I've got a sample pack of renal food in both wet and dry. So far my cats been eating wet l. He was on SO food and when I tried the dry he immediately threw it up. Will he also throw up the dry renal food? I'd like to offer him both wet and dry to ensure he's getting enough calories but now dry food makes me nervous. Thanks

I recommend trying a small amount of dry to see if he likes it, and holds it down. Cats often vomit dry if they eat too much at one time and/or eat dry food too fast. The renal food may be more digestible also. If he likes it I would continue to just feed small amounts twice a day in addition to the wet.
