My budgie's beak is breaking and discolored. What's the remedy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 6 years and 7 months old | 0.01 lbs

Hi my budgie seems to have some kind of fungus on her beak. She tried biting me as usual when i picked her up and then her beak just broke appart. Is there any remedy for this? I see a dark discoloration on the inside of her beak so it looks to be spreading. Please let me know. If it breaks any more she won't be able to eat. Thank you!

This is most likely a nutritional deficiency leading to a brittle beak. It may also be a fungal infection or systemic disease such as liver disease. I would suggest having him looked at by an exotic veterinarian to be on the safe side. If this is nutritional, I would suggest Vitamin A, Calcium and getting him some direct sunlight to see if this helps. Please feel free to contact me with questions / concerns
