Is my kitten's Clindamycin dose safe? Vet vs. box instructions.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 28 days old | 2.2 lbs

My vet prescribed Clindamycin hydrochloride liquide to my sick kitten with the doasage instrutions of 1/2 ml twice daily. My kitten is only 2.2 Lb and the box it came in says to administer 1ml per 5 lbs once every 24 hours. Would dosing my kitten with the prescribed amount cause an overdose?

There is a wide dosage range for this medication based on the condition that is being treated. The amount your vet prescribed is at the higher end of the dosage range, but still in a safe range that is commonly used in kittens.
