My dog limps after daycare, no pain. Is it a sprain or vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Kelpie | Female | spayed | 4 years and 3 months old | 30 lbs

Hey My keplie has hurt her back left foot/leg a few days ago when playing a her dog day care. Now its been a few days now but still seems to be bothering her, not much but she holds it up abit or dosent want to jump in the ute.. but is happy to still play with others dogs, eat and play ball. Im thinking its just a sprain as theres no pain or swelling when we push or touch it no discomfort pain from her. Help we dont want to spend the money at a vet if all she needs is rest for a few days

If Snickers is putting weight on the leg when she walks and acting normal otherwise, I don't see a problem with resting her for a few days to see if the limping resolves. Normally, my rule of thumb is that if a dog is limping for more than 7-10 days, or if the leg is non-weightbearing or looks swollen, then x-rays are needed - so if she gets worse, or if there is no improvement in this amount of time, I would definitely recommend a vet visit at that point. I hope that helps a bit! :)
