Why is my dog's eye cloudy in the center, but not red or watery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | unspayed | 10 months and 28 days old | 20 lbs

I have an 11 month old beagle and I noticed that her right eye is cloudy looking in the center. There is no redness or watering. She reacts when something is moved in front of the eye. What could it be?

Cloudiness in the centre of the eye is caused by oedema in the cornea, usually this is due to a traum, irritation, infection or sometimes dry eyes. It can be a corneal ulcer where there is actually a hole in the cornea. I would get it checked as it may need treatment.
