Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 months and 25 days old | 10 lbs
My dog (adopted mixed breed) constantly have a doscharge in one eye. This often (at least every 2 months) turns into an infection with a smelly and green discharge. He has been on penicillin (oral), chloramphenicol eye onitment as well as tobramicin eye drops. I am concerned that all the topical treatments might scar his eye and that the bacteria is resistant at this time. I work long shifts so i cannot administer it at the correct intervals. Please help!!

If you haven't already I would ask your vet to test his test production. If he is producing s low amount of tear it may be making him more prone to the eye infections. Also, if the eye drops are not helping, your vet should be able to send off a bacterial culture and sensitivity, but they need to request an eye panel. Finally, your vet could also refer you to an ophthalmologist if nothing else is helping. I hope this helps!

I strongly recommend you get him assessed by a specialist ophthalmologist to identify any complicating factors which are delaying healing such as inturned eyelids or abnormal eyelash hairs. Admitting him to the clinic for regular medications may also be a possibility depending upon the results of the exam
