My dog has bloody diarrhea after antibiotics. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | neutered | 12 years and 6 months old | 18 lbs

Found a couple of drops of blood on floor. He had 2 normal bm and 2 episodes of diarrhea today. He was just treated with simplicef for skin problem last dose wed pm then treated with one dose of Ab on Thurs pm for flatworms. He's still active, eating and drinking. Could the bleeding be from Ab or GI parasites?

When two antibiotic are used there can be a reduction in some of the food bacteria in the gut. I would recommend giving Ralph daily probiotics such as over the counter Culturelle to help her the bacterial flora back balanced. If he is still having blood after 24-48 hrs then it's best to have him seen by your vet for further care. Best wishes and take care.
