My dog has diarrhea for 2 days, changing colors. When to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 35 lbs

My dog has had diarrhea for the past two days. It will switch colors from brown to yellow/orange. Her diet has not changed, and she hasn't been acting much different as far as activity goes. Maybe a little more tired. Should I be concerned?

HI, thanks for using Petcoahc! Poor Moxie! There are many causes of diarrhea, a food change is just one possible cause. Others are: virus, ate something gross outside, intestinal parasites, toxin, etc. You can try feeding her a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed about 2 cups per day until 1-2 normal stools. You can also try a probiotic like Purina fortiflora. I wouldn't wait too much longer before bringing her to your Vet. They can prescribe medications to help. Good luck!
