Why is my diabetic dog's blood sugar still high after diagnosis?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 98 lbs

My dog was diagnosed with diabetes 1 1/2 months ago his suger was 200 and now it went up to 500 (vet checked his glucose 3 days ago) he's still high this morning chemstrip test How long will it take to come down?

Diabetes can be difficult to regulate in the first couple of months. Oftentimes insulin has to be slowly increased a unit or two at a time until the appropriate blood sugar is achieved. I would consult with your veterinarian about whether or not an increase in insulin is necessary. There are many factors that can affect diabetes regulation including infections, diet and some hormonal imbalances which is Cushing's disease.
