My cat has feline diabetes. Are there options besides insulin shots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 12 years and 6 months old | 12.8 lbs

Hi, my cat was diagnosed with feline diabetes. I'm not really wanting to give her shots. I have been researching products for the diabetes and found several different things. Is there any options other than insulin and needles. Thanks

There is a small amount of cats that can actually go into remission with a diet change. It is not forever as she will eventually need insulin, but it is worth a try to avoid that as long as possible. Talk to you vet about diet options as far as prescription diets vs over the counter. It does need to be canned food though and the carbohydrate needs to be under 10%.
