Why are my dog's eyes bloodshot and looking in different directions?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 10 years and 4 months old | 45 lbs

My dogs eyes are blood shot and completely misplaced. She tries to open her eyes and when she does her eye is in a completely different direction. I'm trying to get her to look at me but she can't focus either eye on me.. I don't know what's wrong??

It is difficult to see in the picture but if her eyes are really red then she should be examined by a vet right away. She could have glaucoma, corneal ulcers, or an infection that needs to be treated. Glaucoma can cause loss of vision if not treated quickly. Dogs have a third eyelid that will sometimes be visible when the dog has an eye problem so you may be seeing the third eyelid covering her eye, if you aren't able to see her eye. Hope she gets better soon!
