My cat's eye is bleeding and looks really painful. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 18 days old

We got Taffy from someone else. I thought he just had allergies because he sneezes often enough and one moment his eye would be closed the next it was open. A few weeks later it became the first picture. I was hoping it would go away and get better but it's only gotten worse. A few hours ago my daughter informed me it was bleeding. The bleeding as stopped and seems dried up. I want to take him to the vet but atm it's not possible. I'm hoping you can give me an idea of what I'm dealing with. Plz

Oh goodness! Poor Taffy! This appears to be a terrible corneal ulcer. It could have been induced by trauma, viral causes, bacterial causes, etc. These are extremely painful and can be very hard to treat if they are allowed to get this bad. If he is not seen soon-he risks losing the eye altogether. Your veterinarian will have to determine if the eye is still visual (if he can see out of it) or can be kept and salvaged or if it needs to be enucleated. I'm sorry this has happened to your friend. My best to you both.
