My recently rescued kitten has diarrhea. How can I treat it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 lbs

found a feral kitten outside my house. Shes probably around 4-8 weeks old, and she's very very skinny We brought her in, and gave her food. I made the mistake of leaving her with a whole can of food. Since then, she's had diarrhea which is almost constantly coming out in tiny amounts. I've now switched her to KMR to make sure she isn't dehydrated and will slowly wean her to food soon. I've given her a dewormer for round worm, and can't give her any more for 2 weeks. Will the diarrhea stop soon

Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with a teaspoon or two every hour and gradually increase the amount. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to a quality kitten food. You can make a slurry or gruel of kitten food mixed with KMR if necessary then wean gradually to a quality kitten food. Have PB examined by a veterinarian if the diarrhea does not resolve or if she develops vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.
