Can I use Advantage II on my cat right after removing a flea collar?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 10 lbs

My cat(13 month old male) has a lot of fleas and bloody skin. I tried a flea collar with Tetrachlorvinphos and (S)-Methoprene) for four days that did not seem to help, and may have made him too warm (dry, warm nose and very warm body), so I removed it. My question is I'd like to try Advantage II: how long should I wait to apply it after removing the flea collar to avoid a possible harmful interaction? Alan

The flea collars only work as long as they are on the pet. You can use Advantage now to help get rid of the excessive flea load. If that still doesn't do great job, then you can safely give Spot a quick flea ridding medication called Capstar, which will kill all the fleas within 24 hrs, but not act as a preventative for the future. Revolution is another great preventative product that can be tried in the future if the Advantage doesn't work well enough. I hope you are able to get rid of these pesky pests soon. Best wishes and take care.
