Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 3 months old
So my cat recently had his food changed, and has a mild case of fleas as well. A few days he's been having bad diarrhea. Could the cat food cause diarrhea or could the fleas?

While the change in food can cause diarrhea, it does not cause fleas. I can give you things to do to treat both Pumpkin's diarrhea and fleas. Diarrhea: Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Fleas: First, I would give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Good luck, I hope this all helps :-)
