Do my adopted cats need all these FIV, rabies, FeLV, FVRCP shots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 11 days old

I adopted my cats from the animal shelter and was told they need there FIV, rabbies, leukemia, and fvrcp. They already had 1 fvrcp shot. I was told they needed 3 fvrcp shots in total, 3 fiv shots and 2 shits for leukemia. Is this true?

I would absolutely not recommend the FIV vaccine to any cat because of several reasons: 1) It is not 100% effective, 2) If your pet ever were to get lost it will show up positive on an FIV test and deemed infective. They cannot tell the difference between a vaccinated and infected cat on the snap test. 3)Not many vets even carry the FIV vaccine I would recommend doing the following: FVRCP- 3 total vaccines, FeLV- 2 total (only if your pet is going to be exposed to the outdoors in any way), Rabies- 1 set Best wishes with your kitten and good luck finding a good vet in your area. Take care.
