My puppy is vomiting and won't eat days after spay. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 6 months and 27 days old | 47 lbs

My 7 month old german shepherd was spayed on Wednesday. Thursday morning she had one episode of vomiting then she was fine and ate and was pretty active the rest of the day. This morning she woke up and vomited again and is now refusing all food. I took her to the vet they gave her a shot for the vomiting and told me to with hold food and water for 4 hours then introduce boiled chicken and rice. she is refusing. I am now being told to force feed her baby food until the vet can see her tomorrow

I am sorry you are having so much trouble with Layla. Since she is not eating or drinking for you, her hydration is a concern. If she is no longer vomiting, you can try Pedialyte or Gatorade or chicken broth for her to help maintain her hydration until your vet opens. I am sure they will check her incision and temperature and possibly do blood work or x rays to find out what is going and if it is related to her surgery or not. Anesthesia can cause nausea and change in stool for 24 hours but she should not have any lasting affects from that at this point.
