My dog ate garbage, now vomiting bile and not eating. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 6 months old | 90 lbs

My 5 year old amstaff is vomiting bile about every 15 minutes. She got into the garbage and I'm concerned she might have ate something. She acts normally, still alert.. but she won't eat or drink anything either. She was shaking for a while but she stopped. I'm scared something is seriously wrong and I have no idea what to do. She has been sick for 24 hours but it's getting worse.

Marley needs to see a vet immediately. It's quite serious that she is vomiting so frequently for so long, and is getting worse. You are correct she could have eaten something in the garbage causing the vomiting, such as rotten food or something that could be obstructed in her GI tract. She needs veterinary care now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.
