My dog has diarrhea, vomiting, and is tired. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 5 years and 7 months old

My dog started juts last night with diarrhea and today in the morning he had vomit. I tried to get him to eat but Only drink water last night. He was in a playful good mood a couple minutes ago but now I see him tired and sleepy. I believe this can be due to spoils food the neighbor tends to leave behind it was his fist time acting this way so it can be a possibility. I was wondering when it's time to take him to the vet for treatment ?

If you believe Charlie ate spoiled food it is best to take him to the vet immediately. It is possible the food could have given him an infection, or may have caused pancreatitis which can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, tender abdomen and lethargy. Seeking vet care ASAP is best so that Charlie can get started on antibiotics and fluids as needed to help him recover.
