My dog has red, itchy eyes with discharge. Is it conjunctivitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 27 days old | 3 lbs

My dog is a 4 pound Miniature Chihuahua. She is javing eye problems. Her eyes are itchy causinh her to wipe her eye on her paw. Her eyes are also a redish pink color, she has a little amount of discharge from the eye. I believe it is Conjunctivitis but I would like a vets veiw point.

Eyes can be painful. Anytime they do not want to hold their eye open it is a sign of pain along with the scratching at it. She should be seen by a vet even if it is conjunctivitis because she has potential to make an ulcer if she scratches it. Any eye infection or a previous foreign body in the eye can fester and get worse overnight, so the sooner she is checked the better.
