Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 6 months old
My dog has vomited a mucous type of substance. It was white and yellow and had the consistency of slime. Her belly is very round (although it has always been round) so I am not sure how to differentiate between this being a problem or not. She eats her meals but the past few nights she has not slept through the night and woke me up about four hours after our last walk of the night. Her stools have also not been solid and very mushy. Please help me figure out what to do.

It sounds like she could have some gastric and intestinal upset. You could withhold food for 12 hours and then offer her a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice and see if that helps. If the vomiting continues and/or she becomes lethargic than she needs to be seen by a vet. She could have an infection, parasites, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, kidney/liver disease, endocrine disease, etc. Your vet can run lab work and take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to help treat. Hope she feels better soon.

I am assuming you meant to say he is throwing up white and yellow slime? If this has been going on over 24 hours then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. However, if it just started then I would recommend fasting the next meal and then feeding small amounts of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice for the next few days. If the vomiting continues or if he won’t eat then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Poor Makivali! It could be he has a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, could have a foreign body, or could have pancreatitis. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
