Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | unspayed | 2 lbs
My two year old cat was litter trained and had no problems until she was 8 months old. She began to pee outside of the litter and now she defecates outside of it as well, including on a rug. A vet recommended that I not spay her because of her small size and that it could be dangerous. At night I put her in a cage with a clean litter box and yet she still pees right outside of it. She has even started to pee in her sleeping and eating spaces.

I would recommend spaying her as soon as you can. If she is over 6 months old she is able to be spayed even if she is a smaller cat. The urination and defecation can be a behavioral issue. I would recommend taking her to a vet for a urine test to make sure she does not have a urinary tract infection or inflamed bladder. If the urine sample is normal I would recommend to increase litter boxes. Also, try felioway. This is a cat pheromone which can produce a calming affect.
