My active puppy won't eat his food. Should I change it or add to it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | neutered | 7 months and 16 days old | 42 lbs

Why won't my puppy eat his food? My 7 month old puppy seems to have lost interest in his food. He is an active, healthy puppy with a big appetite but he won't eat his food. I have to lock him and his food in the cage to get him to eat. He has no problem taking treats but it's a struggle to get him to eat his food. Should I change his food or add some tuna? I'm really confused.

He may be too distracted playing to show an interest in his food unless confined. If you do switch his food to see if he prefers a flavor over another it is best to mix them and transition over a week In order to decrease an upset stomach.
