My outdoor cat has an injured, pushed-out, brown front paw claw. Help!

Would you be able to offer advice in regards to a cat with an injured claw on his front paw? It's the highest one and it is pushed all the way out and is a brown colour. We noticed a mark on his fur right on top of this injured nail. It looked to be skinned off but like it was road rash. We're not sure if this will heal and is a normal injury for a kitty who plays outside every day!' I hope you can help!

I am sorry to hear about Sly. I would be concerned that this nail could detaching from the nail bed (this can happen due to trauma or the nail getting snagged on something), or that we could have a fracture of the toe. I would recommend an examination at your veterinarian to palpate the toe and closely examine the nail. If the nail is loose it may need to be removed or trimmed back.
