My dog's poop looks red. Is it from food or something serious?

Lupy UPDATE - I recently talked about my dogs roundworms and how I saw some red in it. Well at the vet, he puked 1x and sweet potato skin came out. The vet said it could just be coloring from the food, but he is going to run some tests. My dog is a mutt (although he looks like a black australian shepherd) and I only give him his dog food which is premium, and some dog treats, but he does wander and eat at the st when he sees a chance. But what I want to know is, can certain food affect the color

Food can sometimes alter the colour, but it is a good idea to run tests as your vet suggested, as he/she likely wants to check and see if there is blood in the stool. Blood in the stool can lead to anemia if it is bad enough, so it is best to be cautious.
