Why is my puppy's eye red and squinting? Allergy or infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, I own a 8 months old female dalmatian puppy. I was wondering if something is wrong with the eyes, because the white area is red, so is it allergy, some serious eye diseases or any injury? It doesn't paw at it eyes or scratch it, but it does squint I pet it on the head or neck. Because my dog is always in the backyard in the morning, where we have a lot of bushes and trees. I just recently got Poison Ivy from some of the leaves in my backyard, and my dog go in there and sniff stuff.

It could be that your puppy ran into something outside causing the blood to pool in the white area of her eye, but she could also have an eye infection or allergies. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take her into a vet now to have her eye examined and diagnosed so it can be treated as needed.
