My dog has a hard, hairless, raised area under its chin. What is it?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 23 lbs

Found large raised area under chin of Jack russell mix. Friday it was scabbed over but pink today..not raw. Area is hairless and hard. Starts right below bottom lip..not painful...about the size of a quarter. Eating and playing as usual.

This is likely some type of skin infection, but will need to be looked at by your vet to determine if it is fungal or bacterial. This will require some prescription medication, likely oral antibiotics or antifungals. It is difficult to get adequate response to topical medications especially on this area because your pet will likely lick or rub off anything that is applied to the skin. Please see your vet as soon as you can get her in for an appointment.
