Is my senior male dog straining to pee a sign of bladder infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 9 months old | 100 lbs

My male shep/roti cross is almost 8 years old. Lately, after his initial pee, which can be very long he is stopping to urinate, but he will stand there or about a minute with nothing coming out. this continues all during our walks. I also have a female pure american roti, also almost 8 years. She is fine Is this a sign of bladder infection in my male?

This could be a sign of infection could also indicate a prostate gland issue or even stones in the urethra. If this continues I recommend Samson get checked out by his veterinarian to make sure he doesn't need antibiotics or any sort of test like an x-ray. This is especially important if his urine becomes bloody at all.
