Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Female | spayed | 8 months and 23 days old | 40 lbs
My 9 month basset hound seems to be feeling unwell. She would not touch her normal dry food, but ate a decent amount of rice with low sodium chicken broth. She is drinking water normally. She is walking slower than normal, and is generally lethargic. Her stool has been loose with mucus in it. She was fine yesterday. She has a slight fishy smell. Could this be anal glands that need to be drained? Worried because of the mucus in her stool. Late where I am- will tomorrow be ok to take her to vet?

The fishy smell is likely to be due to her anal glands, but this is not the cause of her general state, the anal gland impaction is probably due to the diarrhea which seems to be the main problem. she might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 12 hours then offer her boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If she remains lethargic and the diarrhea does not resolve, take her to the vet to get treatment.
