Why is my lovebird regurgitating food on his foot and then eating it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My lovebird is six. He used to regurgitate his food on his favorite toy. Now he does so on his foot and then eats the food again. Is this a seasonal behavior? He does not appear to be ill. Very messy and gross.

It is most likely a behavioral problem. Birds will regurgitate on objects that they are possessive of. He is marking his territory. However if he stops eating or is acting ill I would take him to a local vet.
