My dog has painful, pus-filled bumps on her chin. Is it chin acne?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

My dog has many large pimple like bumps on her chin, directly under the mouth. We think they are infected and bites but i pop them and puss comes out. They seem to be very painful to the touch and she seems low energy and wont eat. Help?

Poor Harper. She may be suffering from chin acne which is essentially an infection on her chin. Make sure she is drinking and eating out of stainless steels bowls that can be regularly cleaned. Plastics tend to cause acne to get worse because of the bacteria that can build up. Also, you can try to use stridex pads on her chin twice a day to help it. Unfortunately some of these cases need oral antibiotics so if it isn't getting better or she seems really uncomfortable then I recommend to take her to the vet for an exam. Also I would recommend to not pop the pustules as that can cause them to become more infected if you aren't careful. I hope she starts to feel better.
