My 7-month-old cat keeps throwing up undigested food. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 months old | 7 lbs

My cat vomited up undigested food twice tonight. He is 7 months old, and this is the first time I have had him ever vomit. There was no hair in it, but he seems to be his normal self. He hasn't eaten much today. So the little bit he ate was what he vomited up. We have no houseplants, and all chemicals are put up and locked as we have a 5 year old.

He might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 8 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If he continues vomiting or is not eating, take him to the vet to get treatment.
