My dog has watery diarrhea but seems fine. Does she need a vet?

Hi my 1 year old Retriever has had a day or two with loose stools. Today she had watery yellow diarrhoea. She a small portion of chicken and rice last night and seems normal otherwise - wants to play, goes for walks, not lethargic and wants to eat. I'm not going to feed her this morning but should I take her to the vet today or see how she is for rest of the day?

This doesn't sound like it warrants a vet visit yet as long as the diarrhea is not chronic, and her energy level is within normal limits. I would continue with the chicken / rice diet as you have been doing already at least for another couple days. You might want to run a fecal sample over to the veterinarian just so they can have a look and make sure there is no obvious parasitic component to the problem at hand. If the diarrhea persists in spite of the dietary therapy for more than a day or so, I would then go ahead and take Erin to the vet to be checked out more thoroughly. There are a huge number of reasons for diarrhea, some more common than others, that would have to be assessed in a variety of ways. Most commonly this includes blood work and imaging. Hope this helps!
