My dog's ear flap growth is bleeding and getting larger. What now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 55 lbs

Ty has a histcytoma on his ear flap. I took him to the vet and the gave him antibiotics and a powder to put on the area. The got started looking really angry when I put the powder on it and the vet told me to stop. Now that the antibiotics are done it seems to have gotten larger in diameter but not as high. It leaks blood on occasion. Suggestions please

Histiocytomas often resolve on their own but it can take a few months and they can be irritating, so if the dog is truly bothered by it then we will sometimes go ahead and surgically remove them. You may consider an e-collar to keep your dog from scratching/bumping it in the hopes that it bleeds less. Topical DMSO which is a liquid is sometimes used to decrease irritation.
