My dog has swollen, yeasty paws. How can I treat his foot issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 11 years and 5 months old | 42 lbs

We have an 11 yr. old Beagle (in Wisc.) with swollen bloody pustules between his toes and black yeast conditions on his feet and in his ears. I give him baths in antifungal soap from the vet . He has been wearing a "cone" for several months so he can't lick. We've soaked his feet in epsom salts. Vet recommend vinegar and peroxide water but it hurts. Meds for his ears work, but nothing for his feet. ????

Poor Rusty. When you bathe him make sure to let his feet soak in the lather up 15-30 minutes. This will allow for the best penetration of the shampoo. Make sure your vet knows he's not improving. I don't know why medications have been tried but sometime oral antifungal medications are needed for persistent yeast. If your vet has tried all of the basic treatments it may be time to ask for referral to a dermatologist for a full skin workup.
