My puppy is vomiting blood and worms, lethargic. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 lbs

My nine week could puppy has diarrhea and is vomiting and will not eat or drink and he's really lethargic. We thought he might have parvo but he threw up and his vomit was red tinted even though he hasn't eaten and I noticed long flat looking worms in it. What kind of worms might they be? And should I give him medicine for vomiting. What should I be concerned about the most? I've been trying to keep him hydrated by giving him small amounts of power aid with a syringe.

Red tinge blood indicates bleeding and that is a medical emergency. The long flat worms could be tapeworms, but I am extremely concerned that he could be vomiting up blood. I would be most concerned that he has parvovirus given that he is vomiting, really lethargic, has diarrhea, and possibly has blood in his vomit. A dog can have parvo and worms at the same time. He needs veterinary attention now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.
