What is this bump on my dogs hind leg? He's a pitbull/lab. Doesn't bother him at all. Took him to the vet and they said to keep an eye on it and of it gets bigger they'll take it off. Would like a second opinion.

This is a gross looking bump on Jack! Given his age, it's more likely to be due to a benign tumor, but there is a very small change it could be malignant. The only way to know for sure, however, is to have a fine needle aspirate done it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the bump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. You can ask the vet to have this done, and that will tell you what is causing the bump. Otherwise, you can wait to see if it grows as the vet suggests, and have it removed if needed. I hope this helps!
