Why is my 4-week-old kitten's diarrhea bloody and she's lethargic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 25 days old | 1lb

My cat is about four weeks old and is undergoing diarrhea. Her stool is gooey and green and yesterday I saw a bit of blood on the tissue when I was gently whiling the excess stool off the bottom of her tail. I've been feeding her 1 tsp of KMR step 2 formula every 3-4 hours when she gets hungry mixed with two tablespoons of water. Am I doing something wrong? Why is she having this type of stool? It's not solid whatsoever and yesterday she was acting very lethargic. Please help.

Your young kitten likely has intestinal parasites that are causing the diarrhea. This is very common in puppies and kittens. You can pick up some dewormer at the local pet store to give her or call your vet and they can recommend a type and dosage. At this age you can probably start offering your kitten real food as well. You can moisten some kibble with warm water to help soften it which will make the food easier for her to eat. If you deworm the kitten and she is still having diarrhea she may need antibiotics to help clear it up.
